The Ducky Derby is one of Aspen’s most unique and famous events. Throughout the year, the Aspen Rotary sells the chance to ‘adopt’ one or more small rubber ducks. The proceeds are donated to numerous charitable causes. On August 10th, the thousands of purchased rubber ducks are dumped into the Roaring Fork River from the No Problem Bridge, each with a small sticker that relates back to its owner.
The ducks race along the river until they reach the finish line under the Mill Street Bridge. The owner of the winning duck is given a check for ten thousand dollars. The Derby has turned into a full-day affair with a party hosted in Rio Grande Park complete with barbeque, beer, and plenty of fun and games for the kids. The real question though – are you feeling lucky?
