Forty years ago at the edge of town, The Gant condominiums were built as a quiet retreat for those looking to relax and enjoy the serenity of the Rocky Mountains. From the beginning, a sly fox who lived in the woods across Ute avenue, would sneak over to The Gant at dawn or dusk in search of food.  As time went on, the resort staff began to embrace this fox as another member of The Gant family and he was affectionately named Pepperjack.  In honor of our little fox friend we have named our new café, Pepperjack’s Café.

Independence Pass to Open May 22, 2014

Independence Pass

The opening of Independence Pass is predicted to be on schedule for 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 22, 2014.  The opening date is strategically set to allow Memorial Day travelers quicker access into Aspen, Colorado from the eastern side of the continental divide.  Independence Pass reaches an elevation of 12,095 feet and is the highest paved throughway in the state of Colorado.  A scenic overlook at the top of the pass offers visitors a few of the majestic Sawatch mountain rage.  Several of Colorado’s 14ers are visible from this vista, including Mt. Elbert (Colorado’s tallest peak – 14,440′) and La Plata (14,336′).
