An Alpine Escape

The village of Aspen, Colorado, borrows its name from the verdant aspen trees that surround this picturesque mountain town.

Nestled high among the Colorado Rockies, Aspen has transformed itself from an historic mining town into one of the United States’ premier summer and winter outdoor adventure destinations—all while still retaining its intimate and cultural charm.

Things to Do

Skiing and Snowboarding

Four ski resorts—Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk & Snowmass—are within 12 miles of each other and are all accessible by free RFTA shuttle buses. That means one Aspen Snowmass lift ticket gives you access to all four mountains. Our partnership with Ski Butlers also makes it easier than ever to hit the slopes.

Hiking

With hiking trails of all types, experience the high country’s breathtaking beauty during a casual stroll or a tough uphill climb. From the Maroon Bells Wilderness Area to Independence Pass along the Continental Divide, the opportunity for alpine hiking adventures is endless.

Biking

Aspen is home to some of the most legendary road and mountain biking trails in the world. The Roaring Fork Valley has been designated as an International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Gold-Level Ride Center—one of only seven locations in the world and the first in Colorado.

Golf

The Aspen area features a variety of golf courses all within a 45-minute drive, including the Aspen Golf Course, Ranch at Roaring Fork and River Valley Ranch.

Tennis & Pickleball

Challenge your friends or family to a high altitude match of tennis or pickleball. The Gant offers up three clay courts and two hard courts, which can further be converted into a total of 4 pickleball courts.

Fly Fishing

With two gold-medal fly fishing rivers, the Aspen Valley offers excellent river trout fishing, in addition to high-alpine lake trout fishing. Consider a scenic float trip on the Colorado River and the lower Roaring Fork, fishing along the way.

Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking

Whitewater rafting on the Roaring Fork, Arkansas, and Colorado rivers can range from gentle Class I water to powerful Class IV rapids. For kayakers, the Roaring Fork and Crystal rivers offer everything from chilling thrills to easy floats.

Rock Climbing

Technical rock climbing opportunities abound throughout the Aspen/Snowmass area, but join the locals at one of their favorite rock climbing areas, Independence Pass.
